Autism Double-Checked is changing travel with autism by classifying travel companies into three levels of autism-readiness. At each successive level, the degree of commitment to inclusivity becomes greater but they all show that participants are actively looking to welcome guests traveling with autistic family members.

LEVEL ONE - AUTISM AWARE

How often do you wish that more people know something, or indeed anything, about autism, and were better prepared to understand your loved one’s issues and needs?

And wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could plan a vacation, confident in the knowledge that the staff at the airline you’d be flying, and/or the resort at which you’d be staying truly understand these issues?

Well, simply stated, the service staff at any company that has been certified as ‘Autism Aware’ has had that training and they do understand. They will also be prepared to answer your questions before you book and travel. They have been trained to expect the unexpected, be non-judgmental and autism-inclusivity aware.

And, remember, those places that don’t have this designation are still completely in the dark about autism. Certified ‘Autism Aware’ companies will simply serve your family better.

LEVEL TWO- AUTISM READY

Staff at ‘Autism Ready’ certified establishments have been trained in much greater detail than just awareness: The training here is job-specific and deals with the kind of real, everyday situations that you may encounter when away from home with your loved one.

For example, training for food and beverage staff will have sensitized them to the importance of such things as special dietary needs and how excessive wait times can present problems for somebody who needs everything to be “now!”.  A further example would be that security staff have received specific training about the dangers of elopement – wandering off or running away.

Autism Ready staff will have been trained to be aware of most of the challenges that can (and likely will) arise and they will be ready if and when you ask for their help.

In short, these establishments are ready to welcome you and your family and have invested in lightening your load while you are with them.

LEVEL THREE - AUTISM DOUBLE-CHECKED

It’s great when the staff at the airline or resort you plan to visit is ‘Autism Ready’  but wouldn’t it be even better if you had access to any and all of the special-needs information that you need to help you plan your trip? Now you have just exactly that!

We have worked with these ‘Autism Double-Checked’ certified companies and we have prepared a Visitor Guide for neurodiverse travelers. It is filled with  specific details about possible sensory issues, safety issues and much more: All specific to that establishment.

Certified ‘Autism Double-Checked’ companies  are rolling out the red carpet for you and your family.

About us

Both of ADC’s co-founders are career ‘travel people’ and both have special needs children: CEO Alan Day comes from the travel agency side and David Tait from aviation, where he was a co-founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways. In 2015, recognizing first-hand the industry’s lack of understanding of, and failure to cater to the special needs traveler, the two formed ADC and set about changing things.
