Twins?

Twins?

Posted by Alan Day News

In 1988 Ivan Reitman created the movie Twins starring Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger as two very dissimilar twins.

Not to be outdone, Autism Double-Checked has announced the certification of two very dissimilar hotels.  However, they are absolutely twins when it come to their dedication to welcoming and serving neurodiverse guests.

Just to prove the Twins point, they are both excellent paces to visit and stay.

AUTISM DOUBLE-CHECKED PRESS RELEASE

Autism Double-Checked Announces Additional Hotel Property Certifications in Montana and Belize

Newly certified hotel properties in Montana and Belize have achieved the highest Autism Double-Checked® certification by completing training programs and launching visitor guide resources

STAMFORD, CT, [6/10/2024] – Autism Double-Checked (“ADC”), the leading on-line autism awareness training company for the hospitality industry, is pleased to announce that Boothill Inn & Suites in Montana and Ramon’s Village Resort in Belize have achieved ADC’s highest certification – Autism Double-Checked®. Each property has completed ADC’s comprehensive training and certification programs and launched visitor guides that provide property-specific information for guests with autism and other sensory conditions to access before and during their stay.

Boothill Inn & Suites is a #1 Trip Advisor traveler-ranked hotel located in Billings, Montana. Ramon’s Village Resort, located in San Pedro, Belize, is a Caribbean beach resort complete with restaurants and a scuba diving center. With staff trained to be aware of and respond to a variety of challenges that can arise for visitors with autism throughout their stay, these properties display the highest commitment to inclusiveness and serving the needs of neurodivergent guests.

“We are thrilled to welcome Boothill Inn & Suites and Ramon’s Village Resort to the Autism Double-Checked community and to expand the network of ADC-certified hotel properties,” said Alan Day, Co-Founder of Autism Double-Checked. “These properties have demonstrated the utmost dedication to serving neurodiverse populations by undergoing ADC’s training programs and collaborating with us on visitor guides that are unique to their individual properties and amenities. While these properties are quite different from each other in terms of location, amenities and local area attractions, their certifications underscore the importance of the entire hospitality industry working together to accommodate visitors of all abilities and conditions.”

Autism Double-Checked was created to prepare the travel industry to better serve guests with autism through industry-specific and job-specific training for all public-facing staff. ADC’s training includes three stages: general training for all staff, specific training for all guest-facing roles, and the development of a site-specific visitor guide. Once a hotel has completed all three phases, it obtains the Autism Double-Checked® Certificate, indicating that it is ready, willing, and able to welcome families and guests impacted by autism.

While ADC’s training programs are geared towards hospitality industry employees, the site-specific visitor guides are developed to assist parents, caregivers, and visitors by highlighting various areas and amenities throughout the property that could trigger an unwanted sensory response, and offering recommendations for navigating these areas. The visitor guides also detail key resources offered by the property, such as an Autism Concierge designated to assist with all autism-related questions, as well as nearby resources, such as the nearest emergency room and pharmacy. The objective of these guides is to give visitors the confidence they need to have a successful travel experience by anticipating their specific sensory needs.

About Autism Double-Checked

Autism Double-Checked believes that travel should be available for everyone, including individuals and families impacted by autism. To create this reality, ADC provides an online autism awareness training and certification programs that have been specifically designed to make autism inclusion simple and profitable for all segments of the travel industry, including airlines, hotels, tour operators and travel agents. Based in Connecticut, the organization was founded in 2015 by two lifetime travel professionals and leading experts on traveling with autism who are also parents to special needs children. Studies show that one in 36 children in the United States is impacted by autism (per CDC 2023). Most families with an autistic child avoid taking family vacations due to concerns about their child’s reaction to all the unfamiliar stimuli they will confront outside of their routine ‘comfort bubble’ at home. Autism Double-Checked works with its travel industry partners to ensure training and resources are in place to give this travel segment confidence that they are included and welcomed as travelers.

About us

Both of ADC’s co-founders are career ‘travel people’ and both have special needs children: CEO Alan Day comes from the travel agency side and David Tait from aviation, where he was a co-founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways. In 2015, recognizing first-hand the industry’s lack of understanding of, and failure to cater to the special needs traveler, the two formed ADC and set about changing things.
